Tena samayena buddho bhagavā sāvatthiyaṃ viharati jetavane anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāme. Tena kho pana samayena tiṃsamattā pāveyyakā bhikkhū, sabbe āraññikā sabbe piṇḍapātikā sabbe paṃsukūlikā sabbe tecīvarikā sāvatthiṃ āgacchantā bhagavantaṃ dassanāya upakaṭṭhāya vassūpanāyikāya nāsakkhiṃsu sāvatthiyaṃ vassūpanāyikaṃ sambhāvetuṃ; antarāmagge sākete vassaṃ upagacchiṃsu. Te ukkaṇṭhitarūpā vassaṃ vasiṃsu – āsanneva no bhagavā viharati ito chasu yojanesu, na ca mayaṃ labhāma bhagavantaṃ dassanāyāti. Atha kho te bhikkhū vassaṃvuṭṭhā, temāsaccayena katāya pavāraṇāya, deve vassante, udakasaṅgahe udakacikkhalle okapuṇṇehi cīvarehi kilantarūpā yena sāvatthi jetavanaṃ anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāmo, yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkamiṃsu; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā ekamantaṃ nisīdiṃsu. Āciṇṇaṃ kho panetaṃ buddhānaṃ bhagavantānaṃ āgantukehi bhikkhūhi saddhiṃ paṭisammodituṃ. Atha kho bhagavā te bhikkhū etadavoca – ‘‘kacci, bhikkhave, khamanīyaṃ, kacci yāpanīyaṃ, kacci samaggā sammodamānā avivadamānā phāsukaṃ vassaṃ vasittha, na ca piṇḍakena kilamitthā’’ti? ‘‘Khamanīyaṃ, bhagavā; yāpanīyaṃ, bhagavā; samaggā ca mayaṃ, bhante, sammodamānā avivadamānā vassaṃ vasimhā, na ca piṇḍakena kilamimhā . Idha mayaṃ, bhante, tiṃsamattā pāveyyakā bhikkhū sāvatthiṃ āgacchantā bhagavantaṃ dassanāya upakaṭṭhāya vassūpanāyikāya nāsakkhimhā sāvatthiyaṃ vassūpanāyikaṃ sambhāvetuṃ, antarāmagge sākete vassaṃ upagacchimhā. Atthatakathinānaṃ vo, bhikkhave, pañca kappissanti – anāmantacāro, asamādānacāro, gaṇabhojanaṃ, yāvadatthacīvaraṃ, yo ca tattha cīvaruppādo so nesaṃ bhavissatīti. Atthatakathinānaṃ vo, bhikkhave, imāni pañca kappissanti. Evañca pana, bhikkhave, kathinaṃ attharitabbaṃ. Byattena bhikkhunā paṭibalena saṅgho ñāpetabbo –
尔时,佛世尊住在沙瓦提城揭德林阿那他宾地咖的园林。尔时,约三十位巴韦亚咖的比库,全部是住林野者,全部是乞食者,全部是尘堆衣者,全部是三衣者,前往沙瓦提城为了见世尊,由于接近雨安居,未能在沙瓦提城准备雨安居;他们在中途的沙给德进入雨安居。他们怀着渴望度过雨安居——「世尊住在离此六由旬的近处,而我们不能得见世尊」。那时,那些比库雨安居已住,三个月过后作了自恣,天正下雨,在水聚、水泥中,以湿透的衣服,疲惫的样子,前往沙瓦提城揭德林阿那他宾地咖的园林,前往世尊之处;抵达后,礼敬世尊,坐于一旁。诸佛世尊有与客比库们互相问候的习惯。那时,世尊对那些比库说:「诸比库,可忍否?可过否?你们和合、欢喜、无诤,安乐地度过雨安居了吗?你们没有因乞食而疲惫吗?」「可忍,世尊;可过,世尊;大德,我们和合、欢喜、无诤地度过雨安居,我们没有因乞食而疲惫。大德,我们这约三十位巴韦亚咖的比库,前往沙瓦提城为了见世尊,由于接近雨安居,未能在沙瓦提城准备雨安居,我们在中途的沙给德进入雨安居。大德,我们怀着渴望度过雨安居——『世尊住在离此六由旬的近处,而我们不能得见世尊』。大德,那时我们雨安居已住,三个月过后作了自恣,天正下雨,在水聚、水泥中,以湿透的衣服,疲惫的样子,来到路上」。那时,世尊以此因缘、以此事件作了法说后,告诉诸比库:「诸比库,我允许雨安居已住的诸比库展开咖提那衣。诸比库,对于已展开咖提那衣者,五事将是允许的——不告辞而行、不一起受持而行、众食、随意衣、凡在那里生起的衣,那将属于他们。诸比库,对于已展开咖提那衣者,这五事将是允许的。诸比库,应如此展开咖提那衣。应由一位有能力、能胜任的比库告知僧团——

‘‘Suṇātu me, bhante, saṅgho. Idaṃ saṅghassa kathinadussaṃ uppannaṃ. Yadi saṅghassa pattakallaṃ, saṅgho imaṃ kathinadussaṃ itthannāmassa bhikkhuno dadeyya kathinaṃ attharituṃ. Esā ñatti.
「大德,请僧团听我说。这咖提那衣布已生起给僧团。若僧团适时,僧团应将这咖提那衣布给予某某名比库以展开咖提那衣。这是表白。
‘‘Suṇātu me, bhante, saṅgho. Idaṃ saṅghassa kathinadussaṃ uppannaṃ. Saṅgho imaṃ kathinadussaṃ itthannāmassa bhikkhuno deti kathinaṃ attharituṃ. Yassāyasmato khamati imassa kathinadussassa itthannāmassa bhikkhuno dānaṃ kathinaṃ attharituṃ, so tuṇhassa; yassa nakkhamati, so bhāseyya.
「大德,请僧团听我说。这咖提那衣布已生起给僧团。僧团将这咖提那衣布给予某某名比库以展开咖提那衣。若诸具寿认可将这咖提那衣布给予某某名比库以展开咖提那衣,他应默然;若不认可,他应说。
‘‘Dinnaṃ idaṃ saṅghena kathinadussaṃ itthannāmassa bhikkhuno kathinaṃ attharituṃ. Khamati saṅghassa, tasmā tuṇhī, evametaṃ dhārayāmī’’ti.
「这咖提那衣布已被僧团给予某某名比库以展开咖提那衣。僧团认可,因此默然,我如此持」。

‘‘Evaṃ kho, bhikkhave, atthataṃ hoti kathinaṃ, evaṃ anatthataṃ. Kathañca pana, bhikkhave, anatthataṃ hoti kathinaṃ? 「诸比库,如何是已展开的咖提那衣呢?以未打击的,咖提那衣是已展开的;以未打击的如法的,咖提那衣是已展开的;以破布,咖提那衣是已展开的;以尘堆衣,咖提那衣是已展开的;以市场的,咖提那衣是已展开的;以无标记的,咖提那衣是已展开的;以无谈论的,咖提那衣是已展开的;以无疑虑的,咖提那衣是已展开的;以无储藏的,咖提那衣是已展开的;以非应舍的,咖提那衣是已展开的;以如法的,咖提那衣是已展开的;以桑喀帝,咖提那衣是已展开的;以上衣,咖提那衣是已展开的;以下衣,咖提那衣是已展开的;以五条或超过五条,当天裁断、作成圆满,咖提那衣是已展开的;由个人展开,咖提那衣是已展开的;若咖提那衣是正确地已展开的,若站在界内者随喜,如此咖提那衣也是已展开的。诸比库,如此,咖提那衣是已展开的。

‘‘Kathañca, bhikkhave, ubbhataṃ hoti kathinaṃ? Aṭṭhimā, bhikkhave, mātikā kathinassa ubbhārāya – pakkamanantikā, niṭṭhānantikā, sanniṭṭhānantikā, nāsanantikā, savanantikā, āsāvacchedikā, sīmātikkantikā, sahubbhārā’’ti .
「诸比库,如何是已舍的咖提那衣呢?诸比库,有八种母句为咖提那衣的舍——离去边际、完成边际、决意边际、失坏边际、听闻边际、希望断绝、界限超越、共同舍」。

Bhikkhu atthatakathino katacīvaraṃ ādāya pakkamati – ‘‘na paccessa’’nti. Tassa bhikkhuno pakkamanantiko kathinuddhāro.
已展开咖提那衣的比库,拿着已作的衣离去——「我不会回来」。对于那位比库,是离去边际的咖提那衣舍。
Bhikkhu atthatakathino cīvaraṃ ādāya pakkamati. Tassa bahisīmagatassa evaṃ hoti – ‘‘idhevimaṃ cīvaraṃ kāressaṃ, na paccessa’’nti. So taṃ cīvaraṃ kāreti. Tassa bhikkhuno niṭṭhānantiko kathinuddhāro.
比库已展开咖提那,拿着衣离去。当他到了界外时,他这样想:「我将在此处做这件衣,不回去。」他做了那件衣。对那位比库而言,是完成终结的咖提那舍。

已展咖提那衣的比库,拿着未完成的衣离去,「我将回来」。他到界外后,制作那件衣。他完成衣后,「我将回来,我将回来」,在外面超越了咖提那衣收起。那位比库的咖提那衣收起是以越界为终结。

Tiṃsa pāveyyakā bhikkhū, sāketukkaṇṭhitā vasuṃ;
三十位巴韦亚咖的比库,渴望萨咖塔,住在雨安居;
Vassaṃvuṭṭhokapuṇṇehi, agamuṃ jinadassanaṃ.
雨安居已住满者,来见胜利者。
Idaṃ vatthu kathinassa, kappissanti ca pañcakā;
此为咖提那衣之事,五种将适宜;
Anāmantā asamācārā, tatheva gaṇabhojanaṃ.
不告知、不作白,同样地僧团食。
Yāvadatthañca uppādo, atthatānaṃ bhavissati;
乃至所需之生起,将有诸失坏;
Ñatti evatthatañceva, evañceva anatthataṃ.
白即为失坏,如是亦非失坏。
Ullikhi dhovanā ceva, vicāraṇañca chedanaṃ;
刮擦、洗涤,以及寻求与切割;
Bandhano vaṭṭi kaṇḍusa, daḷhīkammānuvātikā.
缝合、边缘、缝补,加固业、随风。
Paribhaṇḍaṃ ovaddheyyaṃ, maddanā nimittaṃ kathā;

个人正确地铺展,住在界内者随喜。

Pakkamananti niṭṭhānaṃ, sanniṭṭhānañca nāsanaṃ.
离去即完成,决定与失去。

听闻即断绝,界与收起第八;
Katacīvaramādāya, ‘‘na paccessa’’nti gacchati.
取已作衣后,「不回来」而去。
Tassa taṃ kathinuddhārā,e hoti pakkamanantiko;
对他来说,那咖提那衣的收起,是离去的边际;
Ādāya cīvaraṃ yāti, nissīme idaṃ cintayi.
取衣而去,在无界处思惟此。
‘‘Kāressaṃ na paccessa’’nti, niṭṭhāne kathinuddhāro;
「我将作,不回来」,在完成处咖提那衣收起;
Ādāya nissīmaṃ neva, ‘‘na paccessa’’nti mānaso.
取〔衣〕而去出界外,心想「不回来」。
Tassa taṃ kathinuddhāro, sanniṭṭhānantiko bhave;
对他而言,那咖提那衣的舍弃,以决意为终结而发生;
Ādāya cīvaraṃ yāti, nissīme idaṃ cintayi.
取衣而去,在出界外他如此思惟。
‘‘Kāressaṃ na paccessa’’nti, kayiraṃ tassa nassati;
「我将制作,不回来」,对他而言,制作〔之事〕消失;
Tassa taṃ kathinuddhāro, bhavati nāsanantiko.
对他而言,那咖提那衣的舍弃,以失坏为终结而发生。
Ādāya yāti ‘‘paccessaṃ’’, bahi kāreti cīvaraṃ;
取〔衣〕而去〔想〕「我将回来」,在外制作衣;
Katacīvaro suṇāti, ubbhataṃ kathinaṃ tahiṃ.
衣已制作,他听闻,在那里咖提那衣已出。
Tassa taṃ kathinuddhāro, bhavati savanantiko;
对他而言,那咖提那衣的舍弃,以听闻为终结而发生;
Ādāya yāti ‘‘paccessaṃ’’, bahi kāreti cīvaraṃ.
取了(衣)去「我将回来」,在外制作衣。
Katacīvaro bahiddhā, nāmeti kathinuddhāraṃ;
在外制作衣已,称说咖提那衣舍;
Tassa taṃ kathinuddhāro, sīmātikkantiko bhave.
对他而言,那咖提那衣舍,成为界外舍。

在「我将回来」处制作衣已,具足咖提那衣舍。

对他而言,那咖提那衣舍,与诸比库一起生起;
Ādāya ca samādāya, satta-sattavidhā gati.
取了与受持,有七种七种的行。
Pakkamanantikā natthi, chakke vippakate gati;
在六种离去中,没有离去边际舍;
Ādāya nissīmagataṃ, kāressaṃ iti jāyati.
「取了之后,我将前往界外」,这样生起。
Niṭṭhānaṃ sanniṭṭhānañca, nāsanañca ime tayo;
完成处、共同完成处,以及破坏,这三种;
Ādāya ‘‘na paccessa’’nti, bahisīme karomiti.
取了之后「我不会回来」,「我将在外面做这些」。
Niṭṭhānaṃ sanniṭṭhānampi, nāsanampi idaṃ tayo;

Anadhiṭṭhitena nevassa, heṭṭhā tīṇi nayāvidhi.
对于未决意者,下面三种方法不适用。

Saha bhikkhūhi jāyetha, evaṃ pannarasaṃ gati.
与诸比库一起生起,如此有十五种行相。
Samādāya vippakatā, samādāya punā tathā;
受持后已分别论,受持后又如是;
Ime te caturo vārā, sabbe pannarasavidhi.
这些是你们的四次,一切都是十五种方式。
Anāsāya ca āsāya, karaṇīyo ca te tayo;
不依止与依止,应作的也有三种;
Nayato taṃ vijāneyya, tayo dvādasa dvādasa.
从方法上应了知它,三种十二、十二。
Apavilānā navettha , phāsu pañcavidhā tahiṃ;
此处不混乱有九种,在那里安乐有五种;
Palibodhāpalibodhā, uddānaṃ nayato katanti.
