Kathañca bhikkhu mettāsahagatena cetasā ekaṃ disaṃ pharitvā viharati? Seyyathāpi nāma ekaṃ puggalaṃ piyaṃ manāpaṃ disvā mettāyeyya, evameva sabbe satte mettāya pharati.
比库如何以与慈俱行之心遍满一方而住?譬如见到一位可爱、可意之人而对其行慈,如是以慈遍满一切众生。
Tattha katamā mettā? Yā sattesu metti mettāyanā mettāyitattaṃ mettācetovimutti – ayaṃ vuccati ‘‘mettā’’.
于此,什么是慈?凡对众生之慈、慈爱、慈爱状态、慈心解脱——这称为「慈」。
Tattha katamaṃ cittaṃ? Yaṃ cittaṃ mano mānasaṃ hadayaṃ paṇḍaraṃ mano manāyatanaṃ manindriyaṃ viññāṇaṃ viññāṇakkhandho tajjāmanoviññāṇadhātu – idaṃ vuccati ‘‘cittaṃ’’. Idaṃ cittaṃ imāya mettāya sahagataṃ hoti sahajātaṃ saṃsaṭṭhaṃ sampayuttaṃ. Tena vuccati ‘‘mettāsahagatena cetasā’’ti.

于此,什么是喜?凡是对有情的喜、喜悦、喜悦性、喜心解脱——这被称为「喜」。

Tattha katamā upekkhā? Yā sattesu upekkhā upekkhāyanā upekkhāyitattaṃ upekkhācetovimutti – ayaṃ vuccati ‘‘upekkhā’’.
于此,什么是舍?凡对众生之舍、舍性、舍之状态、舍心解脱——这称为「舍」。

Catasso appamaññāyo – idha bhikkhu mettāsahagatena cetasā ekaṃ disaṃ pharitvā viharati tathā dutiyaṃ tathā tatiyaṃ tathā catutthaṃ, iti uddhamadho tiriyaṃ sabbadhi sabbattatāya sabbāvantaṃ lokaṃ mettāsahagatena cetasā vipulena mahaggatena appamāṇena averena abyāpajjena pharitvā viharati; karuṇāsahagatena cetasā ekaṃ disaṃ pharitvā viharati tathā dutiyaṃ tathā tatiyaṃ tathā catutthaṃ, iti uddhamadho tiriyaṃ sabbadhi sabbattatāya sabbāvantaṃ lokaṃ karuṇāsahagatena cetasā vipulena mahaggatena appamāṇena averena abyāpajjena pharitvā viharati; muditāsahagatena cetasā ekaṃ disaṃ pharitvā viharati tathā dutiyaṃ tathā tatiyaṃ tathā catutthaṃ, iti uddhamadho tiriyaṃ sabbadhi sabbattatāya sabbāvantaṃ lokaṃ muditāsahagatena cetasā vipulena mahaggatena appamāṇena averena abyāpajjena pharitvā viharati; upekkhāsahagatena cetasā ekaṃ disaṃ pharitvā viharati tathā dutiyaṃ tathā tatiyaṃ tathā catutthaṃ, iti uddhamadho tiriyaṃ sabbadhi sabbattatāya sabbāvantaṃ lokaṃ upekkhāsahagatena cetasā vipulena mahaggatena appamāṇena averena abyāpajjena pharitvā viharati.

Catunnaṃ appamaññānaṃ kati kusalā, kati akusalā, kati abyākatā…pe… kati saraṇā, kati araṇā?
四无量中,多少是善的,多少是不善的,多少是无记的……多少是有依的,多少是无依的?

Siyā kusalā, siyā abyākatā. Tisso appamaññāyo sukhāya vedanāya sampayuttā, upekkhā adukkhamasukhāya vedanāya sampayuttā. Siyā vipākā, siyā vipākadhammadhammā, siyā nevavipākanavipākadhammadhammā. Siyā upādinnupādāniyā, siyā anupādinnupādāniyā. Asaṃkiliṭṭhasaṃkilesikā. Tisso appamaññāyo siyā savitakkasavicārā, siyā avitakkavicāramattā, siyā avitakkaavicārā; upekkhā avitakkaavicārā. Tisso appamaññāyo siyā pītisahagatā, siyā sukhasahagatā, na upekkhāsahagatā, siyā na vattabbā pītisahagatāti; upekkhā upekkhāsahagatā. Neva dassanena na bhāvanāya pahātabbā. Neva dassanena na bhāvanāya pahātabbahetukā. 或是善的,或是无记的。三无量与乐受相应,舍与不苦不乐受相应。或是果报,或是果报法法,或是非果报非果报法法。或是已取应取,或是未取应取。不杂染杂染性。三无量或是有寻有伺,或是无寻唯伺,或是无寻无伺;舍是无寻无伺。三无量或是喜俱,或是乐俱,非舍俱,或不应说喜俱;舍是舍俱。非以见非以修习所应断。非以见非以修习所应断因。或是积集趣向,或是非积集趣向非损减趣向,非有学非无学,广大,不应说小所缘,广大所缘,无量所缘。中等,不定,不应说道所缘,道因,道增上。或是已生,或是未生,或是应生。或是过去,或是未来,或是现在。不应说过去所缘,未来所缘,现在所缘。或是内,或是外,或是内外,外所缘,无见无对。

Mettā hetu, tisso appamaññāyo na hetū, sahetukā, hetusampayuttā. Mettā hetu ceva sahetukā ca; tisso appamaññāyo na vattabbā hetū ceva sahetukā cāti, sahetukā ceva na ca hetū. Mettā hetu ceva hetusampayuttā ca; tisso appamaññāyo na vattabbā hetū ceva hetusampayuttā cāti, hetusampayuttā ceva na ca hetū. Tisso appamaññāyo na hetū sahetukā; mettā na vattabbā na hetu sahetukātipi, na hetu ahetukātipi.
慈是因,三无量非因,有因,与因相应。慈既是因又是有因;三无量不应说既是因又是有因,是有因而非因。慈既是因又与因相应;三无量不应说既是因又与因相应,与因相应而非因。三无量非因有因;慈不应说非因有因,非因无因。
Sappaccayā, saṅkhatā, anidassanā, appaṭighā, arūpā, lokiyā, kenaci viññeyyā, kenaci na viññeyyā, no āsavā, sāsavā, āsavavippayuttā , na vattabbā āsavā ceva sāsavā cāti, sāsavā ceva no ca āsavā, na vattabbā āsavā ceva āsavasampayuttā cātipi, āsavasampayuttā ceva no ca āsavātipi. Āsavavippayuttā sāsavā.
有缘,有为,无见,无对,无色,世间,以某些可识知,以某些不可识知,非漏,有漏,与漏相离,不应说既是漏又是有漏,是有漏而非漏,不应说既是漏又与漏相应,与漏相应而非漏。与漏相离有漏。
