85在沙瓦提城……“比丘们,我将为你们讲解界的种种。你们要仔细听,好好用心,我要说了。”“是的,尊师。”那些比丘回答世尊。世尊这样说:
Sāvatthiyaṃ viharati…pe… ‘‘dhātunānattaṃ vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi. Taṃ suṇātha, sādhukaṃ manasi karotha; bhāsissāmī’’ti. ‘‘Evaṃ, bhante’’ti kho te bhikkhū bhagavato paccassosuṃ. Bhagavā etadavoca –
5“比丘们,什么是界的种种呢?眼界、色界、眼识界,耳界、声界、耳识界,鼻界、香界、鼻识界,舌界、味界、舌识界,身界、触界、身识界,意界、法界、意识界——比丘们,这叫作界的种种。”第一经。
‘‘Katamañca, bhikkhave, dhātunānattaṃ? Cakkhudhātu rūpadhātu cakkhuviññāṇadhātu, sotadhātu saddadhātu sotaviññāṇadhātu, ghānadhātu gandhadhātu ghānaviññāṇadhātu, jivhādhātu rasadhātu jivhāviññāṇadhātu, kāyadhātu phoṭṭhabbadhātu kāyaviññāṇadhātu, manodhātu dhammadhātu manoviññāṇadhātu – idaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave, dhātunānatta’’nti. Sāvatthiyaṃ viharati…pe… ‘‘dhātunānattaṃ, bhikkhave, paṭicca uppajjati phassanānattaṃ. Katamañca, bhikkhave, dhātunānattaṃ? Cakkhudhātu sotadhātu ghānadhātu jivhādhātu kāyadhātu manodhātu – idaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave, dhātunānattaṃ’’.
8“比丘们,缘于界的种种,触的种种又如何生起呢?比丘们,缘于眼界,眼触生起;缘于耳界……缘于鼻界……缘于舌界……缘于身界……缘于意界,意触生起。比丘们,就是这样缘于界的种种,触的种种生起。”第二经。

91在舍卫城…… “大德。”那些比丘回应世尊。世尊这样说:“比丘们,缘于界的种种而生起想的种种,缘于想的种种而生起思惟的种种,缘于思惟的种种而生起欲的种种,缘于欲的种种而生起热恼的种种,缘于热恼的种种而生起寻求的种种。比丘们,什么是界的种种?色界……乃至……法界——比丘们,这就叫作界的种种。”

23“比丘们,缘于色界而生起色想,缘于色想而生起色思惟,缘于色思惟而生起色欲,缘于色欲而生起色热恼,缘于色热恼而生起色寻求……乃至……缘于法界而生起法想,缘于法想而生起法思惟,缘于法思惟而生起法欲,缘于法欲而生起法热恼,缘于法热恼而生起法寻求。

诸比丘!什么是界种种?色界、声界、香界、味界、触界、法界——诸比丘!这称为界种种。」

93住在舍卫城……世尊说:「诸比丘!缘界种种而生起想种种,缘想种种而生起寻种种,缘寻种种而生起触种种,缘触种种而生起受种种,缘受种种而生起欲种种,缘欲种种而生起热恼种种,缘热恼种种而生起寻求种种,缘寻求种种而生起获得种种。诸比丘!什么是界种种?色界、声界、香界、味界、触界、法界——诸比丘!这称为界种种。」

33诸比丘!缘色界生起色想,缘色想生起色思惟,缘色思惟生起色触,缘色触生起色触所生受,缘色触所生受生起色欲,缘色欲生起色热恼,缘色热恼生起色寻求,缘色寻求生起色获得。
缘声界生起声想,缘声想生起声思惟,缘声思惟生起声触,缘声触生起声触所生受,缘声触所生受生起声欲,缘声欲生起声热恼,缘声热恼生起声寻求,缘声寻求生起声获得。
缘香界生起香想,缘香想生起香思惟,缘香思惟生起香触,缘香触生起香触所生受,缘香触所生受生起香欲,缘香欲生起香热恼,缘香热恼生起香寻求,缘香寻求生起香获得。
缘味界生起味想,缘味想生起味思惟,缘味思惟生起味触,缘味触生起味触所生受,缘味触所生受生起味欲,缘味欲生起味热恼,缘味热恼生起味寻求,缘味寻求生起味获得。
缘触界生起触想,缘触想生起触思惟,缘触思惟生起触触,缘触触生起触触所生受,缘触触所生受生起触欲,缘触欲生起触热恼,缘触热恼生起触寻求,缘触寻求生起触获得。
缘法界生起法想,缘法想生起法思惟,缘法思惟生起法触,缘法触生起法触所生受,缘法触所生受生起法欲,缘法欲生起法热恼,缘法热恼生起法寻求,缘法寻求生起法获得。

94住在舍卫城……「诸比丘!缘界种种而生起想种种,缘想种种而生起寻种种,触……受……欲……热恼……寻求种种而生起获得种种;非缘获得种种而生起寻求种种,非缘寻求种种而生起热恼种种,非缘热恼种种而生起……欲……受……触……寻……想种种,非缘想种种而生起界种种。诸比丘!什么是界种种?色界……法界——诸比丘!这称为界种种。」

61“比丘们,这就像一个把燃烧的火把扔到干草堆里的人,如果不用手脚赶紧把它扑灭,那么,比丘们,凡是那些依靠草木而活的小动物,就会遭受灾难和毁灭。同样地,比丘们,任何一个沙门或婆罗门,如果对于已经生起的邪恶不善之想,不能赶紧舍断、驱除、消除、让它消失无形,那么他在这一生中就会活在痛苦里,伴随着恼恨、忧虑和热恼;并且身体破裂、死后,可以预期他会投生到恶道。”
‘‘Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, puriso ādittaṃ tiṇukkaṃ sukkhe tiṇadāye nikkhipeyya; no ce hatthehi ca pādehi ca khippameva nibbāpeyya. Evañhi, bhikkhave, ye tiṇakaṭṭhanissitā pāṇā te anayabyasanaṃ āpajjeyyuṃ. 66「诸比丘!譬如有人将燃烧的火把投于干草堆中;他以手与足迅速地熄灭它。如此,诸比丘!依止草木的众生将不遭遇灾难与不幸。同样地,诸比丘!任何沙门或婆罗门,若迅速地舍断、除去、灭尽、使已生起的邪曲想不存在,他于现法住于乐、无恼害、无忧恼、无热恼;身坏命终后,可期待善趣。」第二经。

97有一次,世尊住在亲戚村的砖瓦房里。那时,世尊招呼比丘们说:“比丘们。”那些比丘回应世尊说:“尊者。”世尊说了以下的话:
Ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā ñātike viharati giñjakāvasathe. Tatra kho bhagavā bhikkhū āmantesi – ‘‘bhikkhavo’’ti. ‘‘Bhadante’’ti te bhikkhū bhagavato paccassosuṃ. Bhagavā etadavoca –
69“比丘们,缘于界而生起想,生起见,生起寻。”这样说了之后,具寿迦旃延问世尊说:“尊者,那种‘在不完全觉悟的人当中认定有完全觉悟者’的见,是缘于什么而显现的呢?”
‘‘Dhātuṃ, bhikkhave, paṭicca uppajjati saññā, uppajjati diṭṭhi, uppajjati vitakko’’ti. Evaṃ vutte, āyasmā kaccāno bhagavantaṃ etadavoca – ‘‘yāyaṃ, bhante, diṭṭhi – ‘asammāsambuddhesu sammāsambuddhā’ti, ayaṃ nu kho, bhante, diṭṭhi kiṃ paṭicca paññāyatī’’ti?
70“迦旃延,这个界是很大的,那就是无明界。迦旃延,缘于低劣的界,就生起低劣的想、低劣的见、低劣的寻、低劣的思、低劣的愿望、低劣的志向、低劣的人、低劣的言语;他说、教导、施设、建立、揭示、分析、阐明那些低劣的东西;我说,他的投生也是低劣的。
‘‘Mahati kho esā, kaccāna, dhātu yadidaṃ avijjādhātu. 98在沙瓦提城……世尊说:比丘们,确实是依于界,众生才相合、相聚。杀生的人与杀生的人相合、相聚;不与而取的人……在爱欲上有邪行的人……妄语的人……说离间语的人……说粗恶语的人……说杂秽语的人与说杂秽语的人相合、相聚;有贪婪的人与有贪婪的人相合、相聚;有嗔恚心的人与有嗔恚心的人相合、相聚;持有邪见的人与持有邪见的人相合、相聚。
Sāvatthiyaṃ viharati…pe… ‘‘dhātusova , bhikkhave, sattā saṃsandanti samenti. Hīnādhimuttikā hīnādhimuttikehi saddhiṃ saṃsandanti samenti; kalyāṇādhimuttikā kalyāṇādhimuttikehi saddhiṃ saṃsandanti samenti’’.
75“比丘们,在过去漫长的时光里,众生正是依着界而聚合、走到一起的。志向低劣的与志向低劣的在一起聚合、走到一起;志向良善的与志向良善的在一起聚合、走到一起。
‘‘Atītampi kho , bhikkhave, addhānaṃ dhātusova sattā saṃsandiṃsu samiṃsu. Hīnādhimuttikā hīnādhimuttikehi saddhiṃ saṃsandiṃsu samiṃsu; kalyāṇādhimuttikā kalyāṇādhimuttikehi saddhiṃ saṃsandiṃsu samiṃsu.
76“比丘们,在未来漫长的时光里,众生也将会依着界而聚合、走到一起。志向低劣的与志向低劣的在一起聚合、走到一起;志向良善的与志向良善的在一起聚合、走到一起。

95「由于结交而生染着,由于不结交而断除;
‘‘Saṃsaggā vanatho jāto, asaṃsaggena chijjati;
96就像抱着一根小小的木头,就会沉没在广阔的大海里一样。
Parittaṃ dārumāruyha, yathā sīde mahaṇṇave.
97「如此亲近懈怠者,善生活者也会沉沦;
‘‘Evaṃ kusītamāgamma, sādhujīvipi sīdati;
98因此应当避开彼,懈怠者、劣精进者。

123在舍卫城住着……“比丘们,那些沙门或婆罗门,不了知地界,不了知地界的集起,不了知地界的灭,不了知导向地界灭的行道……不了知水界……不了知火界……不了知风界,不了知风界的集起,不了知风界的灭,不了知导向风界灭的行道,那么,比丘们,在我看来,他们不能算是沙门中的沙门、婆罗门中的婆罗门;而且,这些尊者们在当生中也不能亲自证悟、完全实现沙门的目标或婆罗门的目标而安住。”
