242如是我闻:有一次,世尊住在王舍城外的竹林里,也就是迦兰陀竹园那个地方。就在那时候,有个居士的儿子叫尸伽罗越,一大早天刚亮就起了床,出了王舍城,衣服湿漉漉的,头发也是湿的,双手合十,朝着各个方向礼拜——东边、南边、西边、北边、下方、上方,一个个方向拜过去。
Evaṃ me sutaṃ – ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā rājagahe viharati veḷuvane kalandakanivāpe. Tena kho pana samayena siṅgālako gahapatiputto kālasseva uṭṭhāya rājagahā nikkhamitvā allavattho allakeso pañjaliko puthudisā namassati – puratthimaṃ disaṃ dakkhiṇaṃ disaṃ pacchimaṃ disaṃ uttaraṃ disaṃ heṭṭhimaṃ disaṃ uparimaṃ disaṃ.
243那天上午,世尊穿好下衣,拿了衣钵,走进王舍城里乞食。世尊看见了居士的儿子尸伽罗越,一大早天刚亮就起了床,出了王舍城,衣服和头发都湿着,双手合十,朝着东边、南边、西边、北边、下方、上方各个方向礼拜。看见之后,世尊就问尸伽罗越这位居士的儿子:“居士的儿子,你这一大早天刚亮就起床,出了王舍城,衣服头发湿漉漉的,双手合十,朝着东边、南边、西边、北边、下方、上方各个方向拜,这是为什么呀?”尸伽罗越回答说:“尊者,我父亲临终前跟我交代:‘孩子啊,你要礼敬诸方。’我呢,尊者,为了尊重父亲的话,把它看得很重、念念不忘,也以此来纪念和恭敬父亲,所以每天早上天刚亮就起床,出王舍城,湿着衣服和头发,双手合十礼拜各方——东边、南边、西边、北边、下方、上方,每个方向都拜。”
Atha kho bhagavā pubbaṇhasamayaṃ nivāsetvā pattacīvaramādāya rājagahaṃ piṇḍāya pāvisi. Addasā kho bhagavā siṅgālakaṃ gahapatiputtaṃ kālasseva vuṭṭhāya rājagahā nikkhamitvā allavatthaṃ allakesaṃ pañjalikaṃ puthudisā namassantaṃ – puratthimaṃ disaṃ dakkhiṇaṃ disaṃ pacchimaṃ disaṃ uttaraṃ disaṃ heṭṭhimaṃ disaṃ uparimaṃ disaṃ. Disvā siṅgālakaṃ gahapatiputtaṃ etadavoca – ‘‘kiṃ nu kho tvaṃ, gahapatiputta, kālasseva uṭṭhāya rājagahā nikkhamitvā allavattho allakeso pañjaliko puthudisā namassasi – puratthimaṃ disaṃ dakkhiṇaṃ disaṃ pacchimaṃ disaṃ uttaraṃ disaṃ heṭṭhimaṃ disaṃ uparimaṃ disa’’nti? ‘‘Pitā maṃ, bhante, kālaṃ karonto evaṃ avaca – ‘disā, tāta, namasseyyāsī’ti. So kho ahaṃ, bhante, pituvacanaṃ sakkaronto garuṃ karonto mānento pūjento kālasseva uṭṭhāya rājagahā nikkhamitvā allavattho allakeso pañjaliko puthudisā namassāmi – puratthimaṃ disaṃ dakkhiṇaṃ disaṃ pacchimaṃ disaṃ uttaraṃ disaṃ heṭṭhimaṃ disaṃ uparimaṃ disa’’nti.

244世尊说:“居士的儿子,在圣者的律法里,六方可不是这样礼敬的。”尸伽罗越立刻说:“尊者,那在圣者的律法里,六方应该怎么礼敬呢?尊者,恳请世尊为我说法,让我明白圣者律法中真正礼敬六方的方法。”
‘‘Na kho, gahapatiputta, ariyassa vinaye evaṃ cha disā namassitabbā’’ti. ‘‘Yathā kathaṃ pana, bhante, ariyassa vinaye cha disā namassitabbā? Sādhu me, bhante, bhagavā tathā dhammaṃ desetu, yathā ariyassa vinaye cha disā namassitabbā’’ti.
7“那么,居士的儿子,你好好听着,用心思惟,我这就跟你讲。”尸伽罗越这位居士的儿子回答世尊:“好的,尊者。”于是,世尊开始说道:
‘‘Tena hi, gahapatiputta suṇohi sādhukaṃ manasikarohi bhāsissāmī’’ti. ‘‘Evaṃ, bhante’’ti kho siṅgālako gahapatiputto bhagavato paccassosi. Bhagavā etadavoca –
8“居士的儿子,一个圣者的弟子,当他真的断除了四种业染垢,不再凭着那四种偏私的心去做恶事,也远离了六种损耗财富的败家之门时,他就这样远离了这十四种恶行,成为一个用六方来守护自己人生的人,走上了一条既能赢得这一生、也能赢得来生的路。这个人的此生已经踏上正轨,来世也同样安稳。他身体崩解、死后,就会投生到善道、天界里去。
‘‘Yato kho, gahapatiputta, ariyasāvakassa cattāro kammakilesā pahīnā honti, catūhi ca ṭhānehi pāpakammaṃ na karoti, cha ca bhogānaṃ apāyamukhāni na sevati, so evaṃ cuddasa pāpakāpagato chaddisāpaṭicchādī ubholokavijayāya paṭipanno hoti. Tassa ayañceva loko āraddho hoti paro ca loko. So kāyassa bhedā paraṃ maraṇā sugatiṃ saggaṃ lokaṃ upapajjati.

245“哪四种业染垢是他已经断除的呢?居士的儿子,杀生,就是一种业的染垢;偷盗,是一种业的染垢;不正当的男女关系,是一种业的染垢;说谎,是一种业的染垢。这四种业染垢,他都已经断除了。”世尊说了这些之后,那位善逝大师又接着进一步开示道:——
‘‘Katamassa cattāro kammakilesā pahīnā honti? Pāṇātipāto kho, gahapatiputta, kammakileso, adinnādānaṃ kammakileso, kāmesumicchācāro kammakileso, musāvādo kammakileso. Imassa cattāro kammakilesā pahīnā hontī’’ti. Idamavoca bhagavā, idaṃ vatvāna sugato athāparaṃ etadavoca satthā –
12「杀生与不与取,以及所谓妄语,
‘‘Pāṇātipāto adinnādānaṃ, musāvādo ca vuccati;
13往他人之妻者,智者皆不赞叹。」
Paradāragamanañceva, nappasaṃsanti paṇḍitā’’ti.

246是哪四种情况下,不会造作恶业呢?一个人如果顺着贪欲走,就会造作恶业;顺着嗔恨走,就会造作恶业;顺着愚痴走,就会造作恶业;顺着恐惧走,就会造作恶业。居士子啊,当圣弟子既不顺着贪欲走,也不顺着嗔恨走,既不顺着愚痴走,也不顺着恐惧走——他就是在这四种情况下,不会造作恶业。世尊说了这些之后,善逝这样说完,导师又进一步说了以下的话:
‘‘Katamehi catūhi ṭhānehi pāpakammaṃ na karoti? Chandāgatiṃ gacchanto pāpakammaṃ karoti, dosāgatiṃ gacchanto pāpakammaṃ karoti, mohāgatiṃ gacchanto pāpakammaṃ karoti, bhayāgatiṃ gacchanto pāpakammaṃ karoti. Yato kho, gahapatiputta, ariyasāvako neva chandāgatiṃ gacchati, na dosāgatiṃ gacchati, na mohāgatiṃ gacchati, na bhayāgatiṃ gacchati; imehi catūhi ṭhānehi pāpakammaṃ na karotī’’ti. Idamavoca bhagavā, idaṃ vatvāna sugato athāparaṃ etadavoca satthā –
17「因贪、瞋、怖、痴,若人违越法,
‘‘Chandā dosā bhayā mohā, yo dhammaṃ ativattati;
18彼之名声衰,如黑分之月。
Nihīyati yaso tassa , kāḷapakkheva candimā.
19「因贪、瞋、怖、痴,若人不越法,
‘‘Chandā dosā bhayā mohā, yo dhammaṃ nātivattati;
20彼之名声增,如白分之月。」
Āpūrati yaso tassa , sukkapakkheva candimā’’ti.

247是哪六种损耗财产的途径,他不去沾染呢?居士子啊,沉迷于酒类、发酵饮料、麻醉品这些导致放逸的东西,是损耗财产的途径;不合时宜地游荡街头,是损耗财产的途径;频繁出入歌舞表演场所,是损耗财产的途径;沉迷于赌博这种导致放逸的东西,是损耗财产的途径;结交恶友,是损耗财产的途径;养成懒惰的习惯,是损耗财产的途径。
‘‘Katamāni cha bhogānaṃ apāyamukhāni na sevati? Surāmerayamajjappamādaṭṭhānānuyogo kho, gahapatiputta, bhogānaṃ apāyamukhaṃ, vikālavisikhācariyānuyogo bhogānaṃ apāyamukhaṃ, samajjābhicaraṇaṃ bhogānaṃ apāyamukhaṃ, jūtappamādaṭṭhānānuyogo bhogānaṃ apāyamukhaṃ, pāpamittānuyogo bhogānaṃ apāyamukhaṃ, ālasyānuyogo bhogānaṃ apāyamukhaṃ.
24谷酒果酒的六种过患

248居士子啊,沉迷于酒类、发酵饮料、麻醉品这些导致放逸的东西,有六种过患:眼前就能看到的财产损失,增长纷争,是各种疾病的温床,招来坏名声,让人赤身露体、丑态百出,还有第六项,就是严重削弱智慧。居士子啊,这就是沉迷于酒类等导致放逸之物的六种过患。
‘‘Cha khome, gahapatiputta, ādīnavā surāmerayamajjappamādaṭṭhānānuyoge. Sandiṭṭhikā dhanajāni , kalahappavaḍḍhanī, rogānaṃ āyatanaṃ, akittisañjananī, kopīnanidaṃsanī , paññāya dubbalikaraṇītveva chaṭṭhaṃ padaṃ bhavati. Ime kho, gahapatiputta, cha ādīnavā surāmerayamajjappamādaṭṭhānānuyoge.
26非时游行的六种过患
Vikālacariyāya cha ādīnavā
249居士子啊,不合时宜地游荡街头,有六种过患:他自身没有人守护、没有保护;他的妻子儿女没有人守护、没有保护;他的财产没有人守护、没有保护;而且他会在坏事上被怀疑;针对他的不实之词也容易被人采信;还有许多痛苦的事情会找上门来。居士子啊,这就是不合时宜游荡街头的六种过患。
‘‘Cha khome, gahapatiputta, ādīnavā vikālavisikhācariyānuyoge. Attāpissa agutto arakkhito hoti, puttadāropissa agutto arakkhito hoti, sāpateyyaṃpissa aguttaṃ arakkhitaṃ hoti, saṅkiyo ca hoti pāpakesu ṭhānesu , abhūtavacanañca tasmiṃ rūhati, bahūnañca dukkhadhammānaṃ purakkhato hoti. Ime kho, gahapatiputta, cha ādīnavā vikālavisikhācariyānuyoge.
28常赴集会的六种过患
Samajjābhicaraṇassa cha ādīnavā
250居士子啊,频繁出入歌舞表演场所,有六种过患:心里总在惦记着'哪里有舞蹈?哪里有歌唱?哪里有音乐?哪里有故事讲述?哪里有手鼓声?哪里有陶罐鼓?'居士子啊,这就是频繁出入歌舞表演场所的六种过患。
‘‘Cha khome, gahapatiputta, ādīnavā samajjābhicaraṇe. Kva naccaṃ, kva gītaṃ, kva vāditaṃ, kva akkhānaṃ, kva pāṇissaraṃ, kva kumbhathunanti. Ime kho, gahapatiputta, cha ādīnavā samajjābhicaraṇe.
30赌博放逸的六种过患

251居士子啊,沉迷于赌博这种导致放逸的东西,有六种过患:赢了,你就招来怨恨;输了,你就懊悔输掉的钱财;眼前就能看到的财产损失;在大庭广众之下,你说的话没人信;被朋友和同僚轻视;想要娶妻成家的人看不上你,他们会说:'这是个赌棍,没能力养活妻子。'居士子啊,这就是沉迷于赌博的六种过患。
‘‘Cha khome, gahapatiputta, ādīnavā jūtappamādaṭṭhānānuyoge. Jayaṃ veraṃ pasavati, jino vittamanusocati, sandiṭṭhikā dhanajāni, sabhāgatassa vacanaṃ na rūhati, mittāmaccānaṃ paribhūto hoti, āvāhavivāhakānaṃ apatthito hoti – ‘akkhadhutto ayaṃ purisapuggalo nālaṃ dārabharaṇāyā’ti. Ime kho, gahapatiputta, cha ādīnavā jūtappamādaṭṭhānānuyoge.
32恶友的六种过患
Pāpamittatāya cha ādīnavā
252居士子啊,交上恶友有这六种过患:那些赌徒、那些酒鬼、那些色鬼、那些老骗人的、那些耍心眼的、那些动不动就动粗的。这些人就成了他的朋友,成了他的伙伴。居士子,这就是交上恶友的六种过患。
‘‘Cha khome, gahapatiputta, ādīnavā pāpamittānuyoge. Ye dhuttā, ye soṇḍā, ye pipāsā, ye nekatikā, ye vañcanikā, ye sāhasikā. Tyāssa mittā honti te sahāyā. Ime kho, gahapatiputta, cha ādīnavā pāpamittānuyoge.
34懒惰的六种过患
Ālasyassa cha ādīnavā
253「居士之子,耽于懒惰有六种过患:『太冷』而不作事,『太热』而不作事,『太晚』而不作事,『太早』而不作事,『我太饿』而不作事,『我太饱』而不作事。如此,他以种种借口推托而住,未生起之财不得生起,已生起之财归于消耗。居士之子,这是耽于懒惰的六种过患。」世尊这样说。善逝如此说已,导师又说此偈——
‘‘Cha khome, gahapatiputta, ādīnavā ālasyānuyoge. Atisītanti kammaṃ na karoti, atiuṇhanti kammaṃ na karoti, atisāyanti kammaṃ na karoti, atipātoti kammaṃ na karoti, atichātosmīti kammaṃ na karoti, atidhātosmīti kammaṃ na karoti. Tassa evaṃ kiccāpadesabahulassa viharato anuppannā ceva bhogā nuppajjanti, uppannā ca bhogā parikkhayaṃ gacchanti. Ime kho, gahapatiputta, cha ādīnavā ālasyānuyoge’’ti. Idamavoca bhagavā, idaṃ vatvāna sugato athāparaṃ etadavoca satthā –
36「所谓酒肉朋友,
‘‘Hoti pānasakhā nāma,
37你好我好之辈;
Hoti sammiyasammiyo;
38若有事情发生时,
Yo ca atthesu jātesu,
39能作伴者才是友。
Sahāyo hoti so sakhā.
40「睡懒觉、近他人之妻,
‘‘Ussūraseyyā paradārasevanā,
41好结怨、无义利,
Verappasavo ca anatthatā ca;
42结交恶友、过于悭吝,
Pāpā ca mittā sukadariyatā ca,
43此六处使人堕落。
Ete cha ṭhānā purisaṃ dhaṃsayanti.
44「恶友、恶伴侣,
‘‘Pāpamitto pāpasakho,
45行恶行、住恶处;
Pāpaācāragocaro;
46行恶行、住恶处;
Pāpaācāragocaro;
47此世与他世,
Asmā lokā paramhā ca,
48二者皆令人堕落。
Ubhayā dhaṃsate naro.
49「掷骰、饮酒、歌舞,
‘‘Akkhitthiyo vāruṇī naccagītaṃ,
50非时昼寝、游荡;
Divā soppaṃ pāricariyā akāle;
51结交恶友、过于悭吝,
Pāpā ca mittā sukadariyatā ca,
52此六处使人堕落。
Ete cha ṭhānā purisaṃ dhaṃsayanti.
53「投骰掷彩、饮酒浆,
‘‘Akkhehi dibbanti suraṃ pivanti,
54追逐他人宝爱之妻;
Yantitthiyo pāṇasamā paresaṃ;
55亲近下劣不近贤德者,
Nihīnasevī na ca vuddhasevī ,
56如黑分月般衰损。
Nihīyate kāḷapakkheva cando.
57「若嗜酒而贫穷困乏,
‘‘Yo vāruṇī addhano akiñcano,
58渴而入酒肆狂饮;
Pipāso pivaṃ papāgato ;
59如负债沉于水中,
Udakamiva iṇaṃ vigāhati,
60迅即毁其家庭。
Akulaṃ kāhiti khippamattano.
61「昼间睡眠、夜间厌起,
‘‘Na divā soppasīlena, rattimuṭṭhānadessinā ;
62常醉酒而放逸,此等人不能持家。
Niccaṃ mattena soṇḍena, sakkā āvasituṃ gharaṃ.
63「『太冷、太热、太晚了』,
‘‘Atisītaṃ atiuṇhaṃ, atisāyamidaṃ ahu;
64如此推托不作事,利益便从年轻人处溜走。
Iti vissaṭṭhakammante, atthā accenti māṇave.
65「若于此世不将冷热看得比草还重,
‘‘Yodha sītañca uṇhañca, tiṇā bhiyyo na maññati;
66善作男子之职,彼便不失其乐。」
Karaṃ purisakiccāni, so sukhaṃ na vihāyatī’’ti.

254居士子啊,有四种披着朋友外衣的敌人,你应该认清楚:那种老想从你这捞好处的,是一种披着朋友外衣的敌人;那种只会嘴上说说的,是一种披着朋友外衣的敌人;那种光挑好听的话讲的,是一种披着朋友外衣的敌人;那种陪你去干败家事的伙伴,是一种披着朋友外衣的敌人。
‘‘Cattārome, gahapatiputta, amittā mittapatirūpakā veditabbā. Aññadatthuharo amitto mittapatirūpako veditabbo, vacīparamo amitto mittapatirūpako veditabbo, anuppiyabhāṇī amitto mittapatirūpako veditabbo, apāyasahāyo amitto mittapatirūpako veditabbo.
255居士子啊,通过四种情况,就能认清楚那种'老想从你这捞好处'的披着朋友外衣的敌人。
‘‘Catūhi kho, gahapatiputta, ṭhānehi aññadatthuharo amitto mittapatirūpako veditabbo.
71「唯求索取,少施多欲;
‘‘Aññadatthuharo hoti, appena bahumicchati ;
72因恐惧而做事,为利益而亲近。
Bhayassa kiccaṃ karoti, sevati atthakāraṇā.
73居士子啊,就是通过这四种情况,能认清楚那种'老想从你这捞好处'的披着朋友外衣的敌人。
‘‘Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, catūhi ṭhānehi aññadatthuharo amitto mittapatirūpako veditabbo.
256居士子啊,通过四种情况,就能认清楚那种'只会嘴上说说'的披着朋友外衣的敌人:总拿过去的事跟你套近乎,总拿将来的事跟你套近乎,尽拿些没用的空话讨好你,眼前你真有急事要帮忙了,他就摆出一副为难的样子。居士子啊,就是通过这四种情况,能认清楚那种'只会嘴上说说'的披着朋友外衣的敌人。
‘‘Catūhi kho, gahapatiputta, ṭhānehi vacīparamo amitto mittapatirūpako veditabbo. Atītena paṭisantharati , anāgatena paṭisantharati, niratthakena saṅgaṇhāti, paccuppannesu kiccesu byasanaṃ dasseti. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, catūhi ṭhānehi vacīparamo amitto mittapatirūpako veditabbo.
257居士子,有四种情况,你要知道那个只会说好听话的人,不是真朋友,而是外表是朋友的假朋友:他纵容你做不好的事,他不支持你做好事,他当着你的面说赞美的话,他背着你就说坏话。居士子,从这四个方面,你要知道那个只会说好听话的人,不是真朋友,而是外表是朋友的假朋友。
‘‘Catūhi kho, gahapatiputta, ṭhānehi anuppiyabhāṇī amitto mittapatirūpako veditabbo. Pāpakaṃpissa anujānāti, kalyāṇaṃpissa anujānāti, sammukhāssa vaṇṇaṃ bhāsati, parammukhāssa avaṇṇaṃ bhāsati. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, catūhi ṭhānehi anuppiyabhāṇī amitto mittapatirūpako veditabbo.
258居士子,有四种情况,你要知道那个陪你走向堕落的人,不是真朋友,而是外表是朋友的假朋友:他是陪你沉溺于酒、发酵饮料这类导致放逸之事的朋友;他是陪你夜晚在街巷闲逛游荡的朋友;他是陪你沉迷于歌舞表演等聚会的朋友;他是陪你沉溺于赌博这种导致放逸之处的朋友。居士子,从这四个方面,你要知道那个陪你走向堕落的人,不是真朋友,而是外表是朋友的假朋友。
‘‘Catūhi kho, gahapatiputta, ṭhānehi apāyasahāyo amitto mittapatirūpako veditabbo . Surāmeraya majjappamādaṭṭhānānuyoge sahāyo hoti, vikāla visikhā cariyānuyoge sahāyo hoti, samajjābhicaraṇe sahāyo hoti, jūtappamādaṭṭhānānuyoge sahāyo hoti. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, catūhi ṭhānehi apāyasahāyo amitto mittapatirūpako veditabbo’’ti.
259世尊说了这番话,善逝这样讲完之后,作为老师的他又接着说:
Idamavoca bhagavā, idaṃ vatvāna sugato athāparaṃ etadavoca satthā –
78「唯求得之友,言辞胜之友,
‘‘Aññadatthuharo mitto, yo ca mitto vacīparo ;
79谄媚奉承者,同堕损财者。
Anuppiyañca yo āha, apāyesu ca yo sakhā.
80此四非友,智者了知后;
Ete amitte cattāro, iti viññāya paṇḍito;
81应远远避之,如避险恶道。
Ārakā parivajjeyya, maggaṃ paṭibhayaṃ yathā’’ti.

260居士子,有这四种人,你要知道他们是为你好、在利益上快乐相伴的真朋友。你要知道,能实际帮你的朋友,是为你好、在利益上快乐相伴的真朋友;能与你同甘共苦的朋友,是为你好、在利益上快乐相伴的真朋友;能指引你什么是真正有利益之事的朋友,是为你好、在利益上快乐相伴的真朋友;对你有慈悯心的朋友,是为你好、在利益上快乐相伴的真朋友。
‘‘Cattārome , gahapatiputta, mittā suhadā veditabbā. Upakāro mitto suhado veditabbo, samānasukhadukkho mitto suhado veditabbo, atthakkhāyī mitto suhado veditabbo, anukampako mitto suhado veditabbo.
261居士子,有四个方面,你要知道那个能实际帮你的朋友,是为你好、在利益上快乐相伴的真朋友:在你懈怠放逸时守护你;在你懈怠放逸时守护你的财物;在你感到害怕时成为你的庇护所;有事情需要办的时候,他会拿出双倍的财物来资助你。居士子,从这四个方面,你要知道那个能实际帮你的朋友,是为你好、在利益上快乐相伴的真朋友。
‘‘Catūhi kho, gahapatiputta, ṭhānehi upakāro mitto suhado veditabbo. Pamattaṃ rakkhati, pamattassa sāpateyyaṃ rakkhati, bhītassa saraṇaṃ hoti, uppannesu kiccakaraṇīyesu taddiguṇaṃ bhogaṃ anuppadeti. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, catūhi ṭhānehi upakāro mitto suhado veditabbo.
262居士子,有四个方面,你要知道那个能与你同甘共苦的朋友,是为你好、在利益上快乐相伴的真朋友:他会把自己的秘密告诉你;他会为你保守秘密;在你遭遇困难的时候不会抛弃你;甚至愿意为了你的福祉付出自己的生命。居士子,从这四个方面,你要知道那个能与你同甘共苦的朋友,是为你好、在利益上快乐相伴的真朋友。

263“居士子,通过四个方面,可以认出‘说利益话的朋友’是真心好友。他阻止你做恶事,让你安住在善行上,告诉你没听过的事,给你指明升天之道。居士子,就是通过这四个方面,可以认出‘说利益话的朋友’是真心好友。”

264“居士子,通过四个方面,可以认出‘心怀慈悯的朋友’是真心好友。你倒霉时他不高兴,你走运时他真开心,有人讲你坏话他就阻止,有人讲你好话他就称赞。居士子,就是通过这四个方面,可以认出‘心怀慈悯的朋友’是真心好友。”
‘‘Catūhi kho, gahapatiputta, ṭhānehi anukampako mitto suhado veditabbo. Abhavenassa na nandati, bhavenassa nandati, avaṇṇaṃ bhaṇamānaṃ nivāreti, vaṇṇaṃ bhaṇamānaṃ pasaṃsati. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, catūhi ṭhānehi anukampako mitto suhado veditabbo’’ti.
265世尊这样说。善逝如此说已,导师又说此偈——
Idamavoca bhagavā, idaṃ vatvāna sugato athāparaṃ etadavoca satthā –
90「利益之友与同苦乐之伴,
‘‘Upakāro ca yo mitto, sukhe dukkhe ca yo sakhā ;
91告知利益者与同情之友。
Atthakkhāyī ca yo mitto, yo ca mittānukampako.
92「此四友,智者了知后;
‘‘Etepi mitte cattāro, iti viññāya paṇḍito;
93恭敬亲近之,如母对亲子;
Sakkaccaṃ payirupāseyya, mātā puttaṃ va orasaṃ;
94智者具戒者,如火炎光明。
Paṇḍito sīlasampanno, jalaṃ aggīva bhāsati.
95「积聚财物者,如蜜蜂之所行;
‘‘Bhoge saṃharamānassa, bhamarasseva irīyato;
96财物渐聚集,如蚁垤增长。
Bhogā sannicayaṃ yanti, vammikovupacīyati.
97「如是积财已,在家者足以;
‘‘Evaṃ bhoge samāhatvā , alamatto kule gihī;
98应分财为四,方能结交友。
Catudhā vibhaje bhoge, sa ve mittāni ganthati.
99「一分受用财,二分经营业;
‘‘Ekena bhoge bhuñjeyya, dvīhi kammaṃ payojaye;
100第四应储存,急难时可用。」
Catutthañca nidhāpeyya, āpadāsu bhavissatī’’ti.
101六方守护篇
Chaddisāpaṭicchādanakaṇḍaṃ
266“居士子,圣弟子是如何守护六方的呢?居士子,应该这样来认识这六方。东方,要看作是父母;南方,要看作是师长;西方,要看作是妻儿;北方,要看作是朋友同事;下方,要看作是奴仆工人;上方,要看作是沙门婆罗门。”
‘‘Kathañca, gahapatiputta, ariyasāvako chaddisāpaṭicchādī hoti? Cha imā, gahapatiputta, disā veditabbā. Puratthimā disā mātāpitaro veditabbā, dakkhiṇā disā ācariyā veditabbā, pacchimā disā puttadārā veditabbā, uttarā disā mittāmaccā veditabbā, heṭṭhimā disā dāsakammakarā veditabbā, uparimā disā samaṇabrāhmaṇā veditabbā.
267“居士子,儿子应该通过五个方面来侍奉东方的父母。心里要想:‘他们养了我,我要养他们;我要帮他们做该做的事;我要保住家族血脉;我要持守好该我继承的遗产;还有,在父母过世之后,我要以他们的名义做布施。’居士子,儿子用这五个方面侍奉了东方的父母之后,父母也会用五个方面来慈悯儿子。他们阻止儿子作恶,让儿子安住在善行上,教儿子一技之长,给儿子娶门当户对的妻子,在合适的时候把家产交给儿子。居士子,就是这样,儿子用这五个方面侍奉东方的父母,父母又用这五个方面慈悯儿子。就这样,他的东方就被守护住了,变得平安、没有恐惧。”
‘‘Pañcahi kho, gahapatiputta, ṭhānehi puttena puratthimā disā mātāpitaro paccupaṭṭhātabbā – bhato ne bharissāmi, kiccaṃ nesaṃ karissāmi, kulavaṃsaṃ ṭhapessāmi, dāyajjaṃ paṭipajjāmi, atha vā pana petānaṃ kālaṅkatānaṃ dakkhiṇaṃ anuppadassāmīti. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, pañcahi ṭhānehi puttena puratthimā disā mātāpitaro paccupaṭṭhitā pañcahi ṭhānehi puttaṃ anukampanti. Pāpā nivārenti, kalyāṇe nivesenti, sippaṃ sikkhāpenti, patirūpena dārena saṃyojenti, samaye dāyajjaṃ niyyādenti . Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, pañcahi ṭhānehi puttena puratthimā disā mātāpitaro paccupaṭṭhitā imehi pañcahi ṭhānehi puttaṃ anukampanti. Evamassa esā puratthimā disā paṭicchannā hoti khemā appaṭibhayā.
268“居士子,学生应该通过五个方面来侍奉南方的师长:要起立迎接,要帮着做事,要竖起耳朵认真听,要提供照顾和服务,要恭恭敬敬地把技术学到手。居士子,学生用这五个方面侍奉了南方的师长之后,师长们也会用五个方面来慈悯学生:好好地调教他,让他把学到的东西牢牢掌握,把一切技术技巧都无保留地教给他,在朋友同事面前为他引荐,在四方保护他。居士子,就是这样,学生用这五个方面侍奉南方的师长,师长们又用这五个方面慈悯学生。就这样,他的南方就被守护住了,变得平安、没有恐惧。”
‘‘Pañcahi kho, gahapatiputta, ṭhānehi antevāsinā dakkhiṇā disā ācariyā paccupaṭṭhātabbā – uṭṭhānena upaṭṭhānena sussusāya pāricariyāya sakkaccaṃ sippapaṭiggahaṇena . Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, pañcahi ṭhānehi antevāsinā dakkhiṇā disā ācariyā paccupaṭṭhitā pañcahi ṭhānehi antevāsiṃ anukampanti – suvinītaṃ vinenti, suggahitaṃ gāhāpenti, sabbasippassutaṃ samakkhāyino bhavanti, mittāmaccesu paṭiyādenti , disāsu parittāṇaṃ karonti. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, pañcahi ṭhānehi antevāsinā dakkhiṇā disā ācariyā paccupaṭṭhitā imehi pañcahi ṭhānehi antevāsiṃ anukampanti. Evamassa esā dakkhiṇā disā paṭicchannā hoti khemā appaṭibhayā.
269居士子,丈夫应该以五种方式来守护作为西方的妻子:以尊重,以不轻蔑,以不外遇,以交出权力,以提供装饰品。居士子,丈夫以这五种方式守护了作为西方的妻子后,她会以五种方式来回报丈夫:她妥善安排工作,善待周围的近亲随从,没有外遇,守护所聚集的财物,并在一切事务上勤快、不懈怠。居士子,丈夫以这五种方式守护了作为西方的妻子后,妻子便以这五种方式来回报丈夫。就是这样,他的西方得到了守护,安稳无忧。
‘‘Pañcahi kho, gahapatiputta, ṭhānehi sāmikena pacchimā disā bhariyā paccupaṭṭhātabbā – sammānanāya anavamānanāya anaticariyāya issariyavossaggena alaṅkārānuppadānena. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, pañcahi ṭhānehi sāmikena pacchimā disā bhariyā paccupaṭṭhitā pañcahi ṭhānehi sāmikaṃ anukampati – susaṃvihitakammantā ca hoti, saṅgahitaparijanā ca, anaticārinī ca, sambhatañca anurakkhati, dakkhā ca hoti analasā sabbakiccesu. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, pañcahi ṭhānehi sāmikena pacchimā disā bhariyā paccupaṭṭhitā imehi pañcahi ṭhānehi sāmikaṃ anukampati. Evamassa esā pacchimā disā paṭicchannā hoti khemā appaṭibhayā.
270居士子,良家子应该以五种方式来守护作为北方的朋友同伴:以给予,以悦耳的话语,以利益行事,以平等相待,以诚实不欺。居士子,良家子以这五种方式守护了作为北方的朋友同伴后,他们会以五种方式来回报良家子:在他放逸时守护他,在他放逸时守护他的财产,在他恐惧时成为他的庇护所,在危难时不离弃他,并礼敬他的后代。居士子,良家子以这五种方式守护了作为北方的朋友同伴后,朋友同伴便以这五种方式来回报良家子。就是这样,他的北方得到了守护,安稳无忧。
‘‘Pañcahi kho, gahapatiputta, ṭhānehi kulaputtena uttarā disā mittāmaccā paccupaṭṭhātabbā – dānena peyyavajjena atthacariyāya samānattatāya avisaṃvādanatāya. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, pañcahi ṭhānehi kulaputtena uttarā disā mittāmaccā paccupaṭṭhitā pañcahi ṭhānehi kulaputtaṃ anukampanti – pamattaṃ rakkhanti, pamattassa sāpateyyaṃ rakkhanti, bhītassa saraṇaṃ honti, āpadāsu na vijahanti, aparapajā cassa paṭipūjenti. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, pañcahi ṭhānehi kulaputtena uttarā disā mittāmaccā paccupaṭṭhitā imehi pañcahi ṭhānehi kulaputtaṃ anukampanti. Evamassa esā uttarā disā paṭicchannā hoti khemā appaṭibhayā.
271居士子,主人应该以五种方式来守护作为下方的仆人工匠:以按能力安排工作,以提供食物和工资,以在生病时照料,以分享珍馐美味,以适时给予休假。居士子,主人以这五种方式守护了作为下方的仆人工匠后,他们会以五种方式来回报主人:他们会比主人早起,比主人晚睡,只拿所给的东西,把工作做得出色,并传播主人的好名声。居士子,主人以这五种方式守护了作为下方的仆人工匠后,仆人工匠便以这五种方式来回报主人。就是这样,他的下方得到了守护,安稳无忧。
‘‘Pañcahi kho, gahapatiputta, ṭhānehi ayyirakena heṭṭhimā disā dāsakammakarā paccupaṭṭhātabbā – yathābalaṃ kammantasaṃvidhānena bhattavetanānuppadānena gilānupaṭṭhānena acchariyānaṃ rasānaṃ saṃvibhāgena samaye vossaggena. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, pañcahi ṭhānehi ayyirakena heṭṭhimā disā dāsakammakarā paccupaṭṭhitā pañcahi ṭhānehi ayyirakaṃ anukampanti – pubbuṭṭhāyino ca honti, pacchā nipātino ca, dinnādāyino ca, sukatakammakarā ca, kittivaṇṇaharā ca. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, pañcahi ṭhānehi ayyirakena heṭṭhimā disā dāsakammakarā paccupaṭṭhitā imehi pañcahi ṭhānehi ayyirakaṃ anukampanti. Evamassa esā heṭṭhimā disā paṭicchannā hoti khemā appaṭibhayā.
272居士子,良家子应该以五种方式来守护作为上方的沙门婆罗门:以友善的身业,以友善的语业,以友善的意业,以敞开家门,以提供物质所需。居士子,良家子以这五种方式守护了作为上方的沙门婆罗门后,他们会以六种方式来回报良家子:阻止他作恶,令他在善行上立身,以善意的心关怀他,教他未曾听闻的,净化他已听闻的,并为他指示通往天界的道路。居士子,良家子以这五种方式守护了作为上方的沙门婆罗门后,沙门婆罗门便以这六种方式来回报良家子。就是这样,他的上方得到了守护,安稳无忧。
‘‘Pañcahi kho, gahapatiputta, ṭhānehi kulaputtena uparimā disā samaṇabrāhmaṇā paccupaṭṭhātabbā – mettena kāyakammena mettena vacīkammena mettena manokammena anāvaṭadvāratāya āmisānuppadānena. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, pañcahi ṭhānehi kulaputtena uparimā disā samaṇabrāhmaṇā paccupaṭṭhitā chahi ṭhānehi kulaputtaṃ anukampanti – pāpā nivārenti, kalyāṇe nivesenti, kalyāṇena manasā anukampanti, assutaṃ sāventi, sutaṃ pariyodāpenti, saggassa maggaṃ ācikkhanti. Imehi kho, gahapatiputta, pañcahi ṭhānehi kulaputtena uparimā disā samaṇabrāhmaṇā paccupaṭṭhitā imehi chahi ṭhānehi kulaputtaṃ anukampanti. Evamassa esā uparimā disā paṭicchannā hoti khemā appaṭibhayā’’ti.
273世尊这样说了。善逝说了这些后,接着,作为导师的他,又进一步说了以下的话:
Idamavoca bhagavā. Idaṃ vatvāna sugato athāparaṃ etadavoca satthā –
110「父母为东方,师长为南方;
‘‘Mātāpitā disā pubbā, ācariyā dakkhiṇā disā;
111妻子为西方,朋友同僚为北方。
Puttadārā disā pacchā, mittāmaccā ca uttarā.
112「仆人雇工为下方,沙门婆罗门为上方;
‘‘Dāsakammakarā heṭṭhā, uddhaṃ samaṇabrāhmaṇā;
113应礼拜此诸方,在家者方为具足。
Etā disā namasseyya, alamatto kule gihī.
114「智者具戒者,温和而善辩;
‘‘Paṇḍito sīlasampanno, saṇho ca paṭibhānavā;
115谦虚不骄慢,如是得名誉。
Nivātavutti atthaddho, tādiso labhate yasaṃ.
116「精勤不懒惰,患难不动摇;
‘‘Uṭṭhānako analaso, āpadāsu na vedhati;
117行为不中断,有智者得名誉。
Acchinnavutti medhāvī, tādiso labhate yasaṃ.
118「摄受结友者,心胸开朗不悭吝;
‘‘Saṅgāhako mittakaro, vadaññū vītamaccharo;
119能导、能教、能劝化,如是得名誉。
Netā vinetā anunetā, tādiso labhate yasaṃ.
120「布施与爱语,利行于此世;
‘‘Dānañca peyyavajjañca, atthacariyā ca yā idha;
121及依法之同事,随宜处处施;
Samānattatā ca dhammesu, tattha tattha yathārahaṃ;
122此等为世间之摄持,如车之轮辖。
Ete kho saṅgahā loke, rathassāṇīva yāyato.
123「若无此等摄持,母不因子故;
‘‘Ete ca saṅgahā nāssu, na mātā puttakāraṇā;
124得尊敬供养,父亦不因子故。
Labhetha mānaṃ pūjaṃ vā, pitā vā puttakāraṇā.
125「因智者善观察此等摄持,
‘‘Yasmā ca saṅgahā ete, sammapekkhanti paṇḍitā;
126故得大成就,亦为人赞叹。」
Tasmā mahattaṃ papponti, pāsaṃsā ca bhavanti te’’ti.
274听了这话,尸伽罗越居士子对世尊这样说:“太妙了,尊者!太妙了,尊者!尊者,这就像把倒下的东西扶正,把遮盖的东西揭开,为迷路的人指明道路,或在黑暗中举着油灯,让有眼睛的人得以看见种种形状。同样地,世尊用了种种方式,把法阐明了。尊者,从今天起,我归依世尊、归依法、归依比丘僧团。请世尊接受我为在家弟子,我从今日起,尽此一生,都归依三宝。”
Evaṃ vutte, siṅgālako gahapatiputto bhagavantaṃ etadavoca – ‘‘abhikkantaṃ, bhante! Abhikkantaṃ, bhante! Seyyathāpi, bhante, nikkujjitaṃ vā ukkujjeyya, paṭicchannaṃ vā vivareyya, mūḷhassa vā maggaṃ ācikkheyya, andhakāre vā telapajjotaṃ dhāreyya ‘cakkhumanto rūpāni dakkhantī’ti. Evamevaṃ bhagavatā anekapariyāyena dhammo pakāsito. Esāhaṃ, bhante, bhagavantaṃ saraṇaṃ gacchāmi dhammañca bhikkhusaṃghañca. Upāsakaṃ maṃ bhagavā dhāretu, ajjatagge pāṇupetaṃ saraṇaṃ gata’’nti.
