651-662舍卫城的因缘。在那里,世尊这样说道:“比丘们,有这四种正勤。哪四种呢?比丘们,这里,比丘为了让没有生起的恶、不善法不生起,生起意愿、努力、发起精进、策励心、勤于努力;为了让已经生起的恶、不善法断除,生起意愿、努力、发起精进、策励心、勤于努力;为了让没有生起的善法生起,生起意愿、努力、发起精进、策励心、勤于努力;为了让已经生起的善法保持住、不错失、增长、广大、修习、圆满,生起意愿、努力、发起精进、策励心、勤于努力。比丘们,这就是四种正勤。”
Sāvatthinidānaṃ . Tatra kho bhagavā etadavoca – ‘‘cattārome, bhikkhave, sammappadhānā. Katame cattāro? Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu anuppannānaṃ pāpakānaṃ akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ anuppādāya chandaṃ janeti vāyamati vīriyaṃ ārabhati cittaṃ paggaṇhāti padahati. Uppannānaṃ pāpakānaṃ akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ pahānāya chandaṃ janeti vāyamati vīriyaṃ ārabhati cittaṃ paggaṇhāti padahati. Anuppannānaṃ kusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ uppādāya chandaṃ janeti vāyamati vīriyaṃ ārabhati cittaṃ paggaṇhāti padahati. Uppannānaṃ kusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ ṭhitiyā asammosāya bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya bhāvanāya pāripūriyā chandaṃ janeti vāyamati vīriyaṃ ārabhati cittaṃ paggaṇhāti padahati. Ime kho, bhikkhave, cattāro sammappadhānāti’’.
5比丘们,就像恒河倾向东方、斜向东方、归向东方;同样的,比丘们,修习四种正勤、多修四种正勤的比丘,倾向涅槃、斜向涅槃、归向涅槃。比丘们,比丘怎样修习四种正勤、多修四种正勤,就倾向涅槃、斜向涅槃、归向涅槃呢?比丘们,这里,比丘为了让没有生起的恶、不善法不生起,生起意愿、努力、发起精进、策励心、勤于努力;为了让已经生起的恶、不善法断除,生起意愿、努力、发起精进、策励心、勤于努力;为了让没有生起的善法生起,生起意愿、努力、发起精进、策励心、勤于努力;为了让已经生起的善法保持住、不错失、增长、广大、修习、圆满,生起意愿、努力、发起精进、策励心、勤于努力。比丘们,比丘这样修习四种正勤、多修四种正勤,就倾向涅槃、斜向涅槃、归向涅槃。”第十二经。正勤相应的恒河重复部分,应该依正勤而详细展开。
‘‘Seyyathāpi, bhikkhave, gaṅgā nadī pācīnaninnā pācīnapoṇā pācīnapabbhārā; evameva kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhu cattāro sammappadhāne bhāvento cattāro sammappadhāne bahulīkaronto nibbānaninno hoti nibbānapoṇo nibbānapabbhāro. Kathañca, bhikkhave, bhikkhu cattāro sammappadhāne bhāvento cattāro sammappadhāne bahulīkaronto nibbānaninno hoti nibbānapoṇo nibbānapabbhāro? Idha , bhikkhave, bhikkhu anuppannānaṃ pāpakānaṃ akusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ anuppādāya chandaṃ janeti vāyamati vīriyaṃ ārabhati cittaṃ paggaṇhāti padahati. 673-684“比丘们,就像所有需要力量才能完成的工作,无论它们是什么,全都要依靠大地、立足于大地,才能这么完成;同样地,比丘们,比丘是依靠戒、立足于戒,来修习四正勤、多修四正勤。比丘们,比丘如何依靠戒、立足于戒,修习四正勤、多修四正勤呢?比丘们,这里,比丘为了未生的种种恶、不善法之不生,生起意愿、努力、发勤、策心、精勤……乃至……为了已生的种种善法之保持、不忘、增长、广大、修习、圆满,生起意愿、努力、发勤、策心、精勤。比丘们,就是这样,比丘依靠戒、立足于戒,修习四正勤、多修四正勤。”(这个力作品应当按照正勤的方式详细展开。)第十二经。”

‘‘Tisso imā, bhikkhave, esanā. Katamā tisso? Kāmesanā, bhavesanā, brahmacariyesanā – imā kho, bhikkhave, tisso esanā. Imāsaṃ kho, bhikkhave, tissannaṃ esanānaṃ abhiññāya pariññāya parikkhayāya pahānāya cattāro sammappadhānā bhāvetabbā. Katame cattāro? Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu anuppannānaṃ…pe… uppannānaṃ kusalānaṃ dhammānaṃ ṭhitiyā asammosāya bhiyyobhāvāya vepullāya bhāvanāya pāripūriyā chandaṃ janeti vāyamati vīriyaṃ ārabhati cittaṃ paggaṇhāti padahati. Imesaṃ kho, bhikkhave, pañcannaṃ uddhambhāgiyānaṃ saṃyojanānaṃ abhiññāya pariññāya parikkhayāya pahānāya cattāro sammappadhānā bhāvetabbā. Katame cattāro?
